Security guard shot dead at Family Dollar store

CHICAGO, IL – Police in Chicago are investigating a fatal shooting of a security guard that took place inside a Family Dollar store located in the city’s Austin neighborhood this past Friday afternoon. The incident occurred at about 1:38 p.m., in which a 43-year-old man was targeted and shot multiple times by an unidentified assailant at the store.

According to police statements, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Loyce Wright of Hanover Park. After the deadly shooting took place, the victim was transported to Stroger Hospital of Cook County, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

A neighboring security officer, Jessie Brown, who works at Sam’s Discount Beauty, went to the scene upon hearing gunshots. Brown reportedly shared a 20-year friendship with Wright. Grief-stricken, he expressed shock at discovering his friend had been shot multiple times on the floor of the store.

With this tragic event, the Harrison Area detectives have opened an investigation into the deadly shooting. As of late Friday, the police were in pursuit of the suspect.

No description of the assailant has been provided as yet by the authorities. Brown, understandably distraught, noted the alarming reality that Wright was killed while performing a job identical to his, merely next door.
