Shooting at Cinco de Mayo party leaves one dead and six injured

Late Friday night, a Cinco de Mayo party at The Scratch Kitchen in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, ended in tragedy when a gunman opened fire, resulting in one fatality and at least six other people injured.

According to Ocean Springs Police Capt. Ryan LeMaire, the shooter targeted a gathering of about 200 people at the restaurant on Government Street.

LeMaire revealed that the deceased victim was 19-year-old Chase Harmon from Pascagoula, Mississippi. The other victims were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. However, the specific details of their injuries have not been disclosed.

As of Saturday morning, no arrests had been made, but police are actively investigating the incident. LeMaire urged anyone with information to contact the Ocean Springs Police Department.

The owner of The Scratch Kitchen, Brittany Alexander, spoke to the Sun Herald about the chaotic scene. She said that the shooter bypassed the security checks at the entrance to the restaurant’s patio without obtaining an armband, suggesting that the individual was not a customer.
