Shooting at high school football game leaves 2 teens injured

LOUISVILLE, KY – Two teenagers were injured in a shooting incident in the parking lot of Pleasure Ridge Park High School during a football game on Sunday evening, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation.

Officers responded to the scene at 8:02 p.m. and discovered a male juvenile who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A second victim, also a teenager, later sought treatment at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital and is expected to recover.

The incident occurred as PRP hosted a rescheduled game against Male High School, which was initially postponed due to inclement weather. The game was suspended immediately following the gunshots, and officials evacuated the premises once the area was secured by JCPS Police and the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).

In an email to the families of both schools, JCPS condemned the violence, emphasizing the immediate actions taken to protect players and spectators and underscoring the need for community support in addressing such incidents.

The LMPD Homicide Unit is actively investigating the case and is now focusing on potential leads. Authorities have disclosed that multiple individuals were involved and fled on foot towards the residential area of Greenwood Road. They are urging residents in the vicinity to review any surveillance footage and report potential evidence by contacting the police hotline.

Community officials stress the importance of cooperation in ensuring the safety and security of local events, appealing for vigilance and communal effort to combat ongoing violence.
