Shooting at illegal party leaves one man dead, 3 children shot

A horrific shooting took place late Monday night in Valley Stream, Long Island. A gunman opened fire at an illegal party, resulting in the death of one man and the injury of three children. The shooter, described as a man dressed in dark clothing, quickly fled the area after discharging eight rounds from a semi-automatic .380 caliber weapon. The crime scene spanned three blocks along Ocean Avenue at 131st Avenue.

Authorities in Nassau County reported that a 20-year-old man from Brooklyn was shot in the chest and pronounced dead. Additionally, a 12-year-old boy standing in the doorway was struck in the left upper shoulder, while two 17-year-old boys from Elmont were also wounded. Amidst the chaos that followed the gunfire, another person suffered a hand laceration.

It is believed that around 50 to 60 people were in attendance at the party, which authorities have deemed illegal due to the organizers charging admission and serving alcohol without a license. Eyewitnesses recount the sudden shift from a calm atmosphere to one of chaos.

Keith Joseph, who was present at the party, expressed his confusion over the violent turn of events. He described the evening as initially peaceful, with music playing at a moderate volume and no signs of aggression. However, the situation rapidly deteriorated, turning what was meant to be a good time into a nightmarish ordeal.

Concerns had been raised by neighbors regarding the large number of people frequenting the area and the legality of the party venue. Nassau County authorities have vowed to crack down on such gatherings, emphasizing the need to ensure public safety and prevent further incidents.
