MEMPHIS, TN – A Memphis mother is facing charges of child abuse and neglect, carrying a weapon on school property, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after her six-year-old son brought a loaded firearm to his elementary school. The child reportedly circulated the weapon among his classmates after he brought it onto school grounds.
Ke’Erinie King, 22, became the center of an investigation when authorities received reporting an armed individual at Geeter Elementary School on August 5.
A school resource officer informed law enforcement that a student at the elementary school had brought a handgun on the premises and had been showing it to his classmates, police reports detailed.
A member of the school’s staff recovered the gun from the child’s backpack and proceeded to notify the local police about the disturbing discovery. Upon examining the weapon’s serial number, officers established that the firearm had been reported stolen.
Investigating officers later questioned King, who confirmed the handgun was hers and that she had acquired it from an unidentified individual. She has been apprehended and subsequently released on her own recognizance.
