Deputies, drones and a SWAT team converged near Lapalco Boulevard after the man ran into a wooded area Wednesday morning.
MARRERO, LA — Jefferson Parish sheriff’s deputies and a SWAT team searched a wooded area near Lapalco Boulevard for hours Wednesday after a man fled from authorities and disappeared into the trees, according to local news reports.
The search began early Sept. 9 and brought a large law enforcement presence to the Marrero area. Reports differed slightly on the circumstances immediately before the man fled, but authorities were reported to have encountered him shortly after 4 a.m. before he ran on foot. WDSU reported that the man was wanted on multiple warrants when deputies tried to arrest him.
WGNO reported that a driver had been traveling in the wrong direction at about 4 a.m. and led authorities on a chase before leaving the vehicle and running away. Other reporting described the encounter as a traffic stop. Officials had not publicly released enough information to fully reconcile those accounts.
Deputies concentrated their search in woods near Lapalco Boulevard. WDSU reported that drones were deployed as authorities tried to locate the man.
