A 15-year-old boy is currently in custody under suspicion of murder after a man was fatally stabbed outside of a McDonald’s location. The incident took place in Bath city center in the United Kingdom. Ben Moncrieff, the victim, was pronounced dead on the scene at Southgate Street after emergency services arrived shortly before 3:30 am on Saturday.
Witnesses have reported seeing a male stab another young man outside the fast food chain, with security intervening shortly thereafter.
Authorities informed Moncrieff’s family of the tragic event, and Avon and Somerset Police officers arrested three individuals in connection with the incident over the weekend. While two of those arrested have since been released without charges, the 15-year-old suspect remains in custody.
The official identification process has not yet been completed, and police are continuing their investigation. Specially trained family liaison officers are providing support to Moncrieff’s family during this difficult time.
Chief Inspector Ronnie Lungu of the Bath Neighbourhood Team has requested that the family’s privacy be respected as they cope with the recent events. He also stated that the Major Crime Investigation Team is actively working on the case, reviewing CCTV footage and gathering witness statements. An extension has been granted to allow further questioning of the teenager in custody.
In response to the tragedy, a friend of Moncrieff’s has set up a GoFundMe page which has raised more than £1,500 to help with funeral costs. The page features heartfelt tributes to Moncrieff, remembering him as someone who brought endless smiles to those fortunate enough to know him.
As the investigation continues, an increased police presence is expected in Bath. Officers are encouraging anyone with concerns to speak with them, and they are also asking for the public’s understanding as they work to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
