GULFPORT, MS – A 15-year-old Gulfport girl, Lexi Jade Brown, currently faces charges of attempted murder and first-degree arson. She received these disturbing charges after an early morning attack on her sleeping mother that took place on Friday, June 14. Local authorities were alerted to a stabbing incident that occurred on Dee Avenue at approximately 2:30 a.m.

According to police reports, the mom woke up to find Brown wielding a knife and stabbing her several times. After attacking her own mother with a knife, the teen then tried to start a fire inside the house. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment while Brown was taken into custody.

During police investigations, Brown allegedly confessed her initial intention of killing her mom. The motive for this violent act, as per Brown’s own confession, was her mother’s unusual behavior and the supposed suppression of her racial identity.

Currently, Brown is being held at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center, with her bail set at a hefty $1.25 million.

Despite being a minor at 15 years, she faces trial as an adult according to Mississippi law, which stipulates adult trials for any juvenile who is 13 years or older charged with a criminal offense.
