Teen dies in car overnight

HOUSTON, TX – A 15-year-old girl tragically died in Northwest Harris County after being exposed to carbon monoxide while sleeping in a car overnight. Authorities suspect the vehicle’s running engine contributed to the fatal incident.

The girl’s mother, who had been in the car with her, called 911 in distress and drove towards help, meeting emergency services near Highway 249 and Antoine Drive. Despite efforts to save her, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the mother returned home from work around 3 a.m. Her daughter joined her in the car to talk, and they eventually fell asleep with the engine running. The family had previously lived in the car, making it a familiar place for them.

Around 5 a.m., the mother awoke and went inside to wake her other daughter for breakfast. When they returned to the car, they found the teen unresponsive. The mother immediately sought assistance, leading to the meeting with EMS at a nearby Whataburger parking lot.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated there were no visible signs of trauma on the girl’s body. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities awaiting the medical examiner’s report to determine the precise cause of death.

The sheriff’s office had multiple units on the scene, including crime scene investigators. They continue to piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.

This heartbreaking incident highlights the dangers of carbon monoxide exposure, particularly in enclosed spaces like vehicles. Authorities urge the public to be cautious and aware of the risks.

As the community mourns this loss, officials stress the importance of safety measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
