Teenage girl shot in the neck while driving

OXNARD, CA – Late Thursday night, a 17-year-old girl was shot in the neck while driving in Oxnard, California. She has since been stabilized and is recovering from the incident.

Based on information from the Oxnard Police Department, the initial call that came in at approximately 9:12 p.m. was about gunshots fired at the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive. Shortly after, another call reported a single-car accident in the vicinity of Rose and Emerson Avenues.

Upon arriving at the crash site, the police connected the two incidents when they found the 17-year-old girl with a gunshot wound to her neck. The teen was rushed to a local hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery.

As of Friday, her condition is reported as stable. The teenager’s identity remains undisclosed. The vehicle that the teen was driving contained two other passengers, both of whom escaped the incident without any harm.

Authorities report that an unidentified suspect fired several shots at the vehicle on the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar Drive. The subsequent car accident took place as the other occupants of the vehicle were attempting to drive the victim to the hospital.

As of now, the suspect remains at large. Investigations into the incident are still underway and further details are not available. Police are asking for anyone who has information related to this case to get in touch with Detective Randall Gonzales.
