Teenage girl stabbed at baseball game in unprovoked attack

LOWELL, IN – An unprovoked attack left a teen girl with a hand injury after she was stabbed on Saturday afternoon in Northwest Indiana while she and her mother were watching her brother’s baseball game. The Indiana Lake County Sheriff’s Department arrived at the scene around 3:45 p.m. at the baseball field near the VFW hall situated on Morse Street in Lowell, Indiana.

An individual brandishing a butcher-style knife assaulted the girl in a seemingly random act of violence, according to reports from the sheriff’s department. The girl’s mother came to her rescue, only for the suspect to attempt to stab her in the process.

The teenage victim, believed to be 14 years old, received treatment at a local hospital and was discharged later on Saturday. Investigators are on the hunt for the suspect, described as a male in his 20s with long hair and last seen wearing a burgundy top and black shorts. The assailant was seen fleeing into a wooded area behind the houses on Oak Valley Drive.

The sheriff’s department cautioned that the suspect might not be alone and should be considered armed and dangerous. They urged any witnesses or those who spot the suspects to call 9-1-1 immediately.

Additionally, officers advised local residents to ensure their homes and vehicles are securely locked and to report any odd activities. While the search for the suspect continues with the assistance of local police departments, no further information is presently available.
