Houston, TX – In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old teenage girl was fatally stabbed on Saturday morning near Galleria with the perpetrator still on the loose, Houston police reported. The tragedy played out around 11:14 a.m. on the sidewalk of West Alabama near Sage Street.
An off-duty police sergeant was alerted by a passerby about a conflict between two females, potentially over a bag. Arriving quickly at the scene, the sergeant discovered the teenager with visible stab injuries.
Emergency services from the Houston Fire Department rushed to the scene. However, they were unable to save the teen who was pronounced dead shortly after their arrival. The police shared their suspicion of the victim being local to the area and possibly walking to or from her employment at a store in Galleria.
The assailant, described as a Hispanic or Asian female in her mid to late 20s, donned a brown jacket and brown leggings. Witnesses reported her to be riding a blue bicycle, which the police have since located.
Although the initial call suggested robbery as the possible motive, investigators are unsure if that holds true. The Houston Police Department is thoroughly examining surveillance footage captured in the area and is urging local business owners and citizens with any information or video evidence to step forward and assist in their inquiries.
Assistant Chief M. Martin assured the residents of the intensification of patrols in that area during the holiday season and urged everyone to stay vigilant, especially in crowded public areas.
