Dallas police said Myron Henry, 42, was not the intended target when gunfire erupted near a neighborhood strip mall.
DALLAS, TX — Dallas police are searching for three suspects after 42-year-old Myron Henry was shot and killed June 9 near a Pleasant Grove strip mall where gunmen opened fire at other people, investigators said.
The case drew renewed attention after police released video and asked for help identifying the men. Investigators said Henry was an innocent bystander who had been sitting near Bruton Road Food, Beer & Wine before the shooting. One other man was wounded and several vehicles were struck by gunfire. No arrests had been announced as of July 9.
Officers were called about 7:50 p.m. June 9 to the 2000 block of North Masters Drive, near Bruton Road, after reports of a shooting. Police said the preliminary investigation found that three unidentified suspects fired shots at the location and fled before officers arrived. Henry died at the scene. Dallas Fire-Rescue took the second victim to a hospital in stable condition. Police later identified Henry as the man killed in the shooting and opened the homicide investigation under case number 083361-2026.
Investigators later said surveillance video showed part of the attack. Around 6:30 p.m., Henry was sitting next to Bruton Road Food, Beer & Wine when a man in a white shirt and dark shorts walked by him. About 20 minutes later, a Jeep Grand Cherokee drove down an alley near the store. Police said two masked people got out with semi-automatic rifles, followed by a third masked person who appeared to be the same man seen earlier without a mask. The first two suspects passed Henry and began shooting toward another group of people, police said.
Police said Henry ran when the gunfire started and headed toward the alley. As he turned a corner, he came into contact with the third masked suspect. Investigators said that suspect shot and killed him. The three men then ran back toward the vehicle. Police said one of the suspects fired toward Henry’s body as the group fled. Dallas Police Detective Cayce Shelton described the attackers as “evil” and said investigators believe someone will recognize the man shown on video before the shooting.
The shooting happened in Pleasant Grove, an East Dallas area with busy commercial corridors, small stores and residential streets close together. The scene described by police placed the gunfire near a food, beer and wine market, an alley and parked vehicles. Police said several vehicles were hit, adding to the evidence recovered from the area. Authorities have not released the name of the wounded man, his age or whether he was part of the group the suspects were allegedly targeting. Police also have not said what led to the shooting.
The Masters Drive case came during a violent stretch in Dallas homicide investigations in early June. Police updates that week included several separate shooting deaths across the city. Five days after Henry was killed, police responded to another homicide on North Masters Drive, this one in the 400 block, where 18-year-old Isaiah Hernandez was shot and later died at a hospital. Police have not said the two Masters Drive cases are connected. Both remained separate open investigations in police updates.
The next step in Henry’s case centers on identifying the three suspects and building enough evidence for arrests. Police released the video because one suspect’s face was visible before the shooting, when he walked past Henry without a mask. Detectives have not released the suspects’ names. They also have not announced charges, a motive or a court date. The investigation remains with Dallas police homicide detectives, who are reviewing video, witness accounts and evidence from the shooting scene.
The video released in the case shows the kind of ordinary setting that investigators say turned deadly within minutes: a man sitting near a neighborhood store, a vehicle moving through an alley, then masked figures carrying rifles. Shelton said police are confident the unmasked image will help move the case forward. “It’s pretty clear somebody knows who this is, and they’re going to recognize him on video,” Shelton said.
As of July 9, Dallas police were still seeking the three suspects in Henry’s killing. The next public milestone will be any police update announcing an identification, arrest or formal charge in case number 083361-2026.
