BUFFALO, NY – A horrifying incident occurred at a family gathering in Buffalo, New York, leaving a 3-year-old boy dead and his 7-year-old sister injured from gunfire on Friday night. The shooting, which took place near the children’s family event but was not directly related, happened in the busy streets where many were out enjoying the summer evening.
According to Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph A. Gramaglia, the young boy was tragically pronounced dead after being rushed to the hospital. His sister sustained minor graze wounds and is expected to recover.
The unexpected violence erupted while the children were simply enjoying outdoor activities alongside their families. The toddler was riding his tricycle, and his older sister was playing alongside him when the deadly gunfire struck.
The mother of the children, known for her active role in the local community organization Most Valuable Parents, which aims to improve safety in Buffalo, is devastated by the incident. Erie County District Attorney Michael Keane praised her continuous efforts to advocate for community safety, emphasizing the family’s significant loss.
As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, although the police have recovered a firearm from the scene for testing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward to assist in bringing justice to this case.
Gramaglia emphasized, “Our hearts are with the family of these children, and we are committed to doing everything in our power to bring justice for this senseless act.”
