Triple shooting breaks out on highway

PHILADELPHIA, PA- Police are investigating a triple shooting that took place on the northbound lanes of I-95, near the Academy Road exit in Philadelphia. At 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, three men in the same vehicle were shot, leading to a lengthy closure of the highway.

A 25-year-old man from Trenton, New Jersey, suffered from severe injuries and was transported to the hospital in a critical state. The other two victims, a 25-year-old from Morrisville, Pennsylvania, and another 29-year-old man from Trenton, are both listed as stable, with the latter suffering a graze wound.

The incident sparked a closure of all northbound lanes of I-95 between the Betsy Ross Bridge to New Jersey and the Academy Road/Linden Ave exits. This caused a considerable amount of traffic congestion as cars were diverted off the interstate at Aramingo Avenue.

This shooting follows numerous similar incidents on Philadelphia highways. In April, a man was shot in the neck on I-76. Approximately one month later, a driver grazed a victim after firing at another car on I-95 north. Another road rage-related shooting occurred on I-95 in June. An additional incident took place only a few weeks ago when a shooting investigation closed a stretch of I-95 in Delaware county.

State police are seeking a possible involving another car. However, they have not released any details yet about what initially triggered the shooting.
