Police found an adult man and woman dead Sunday afternoon as investigators worked to determine what led to the shooting.
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA — Two adults were found dead Sunday afternoon after police responded to a reported shooting in the 1800 block of Twin Mills Road, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department. Authorities said there was no ongoing threat to the public.
Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received the shooting report at about 2:30 p.m. Nov. 1. Officers arriving at the scene found an adult man and an adult woman dead. Police had not released their identities Sunday evening, and the circumstances leading to the deaths remained under investigation.
Secondary reporting described the case as being investigated as a possible murder-suicide. Initial public information attributed directly to Virginia Beach police, however, confirmed only that two people were dead after the shooting and that the investigation remained active. Police had not publicly detailed the sequence of events or identified which person may have fired the shots.
Authorities also had not announced a possible motive or explained whether the man and woman knew each other. Their ages and hometowns were not immediately released. No additional injuries were reported in the initial accounts reviewed Sunday.
WTKR reported that the shooting occurred in the parking lot of an Amazon facility near Twin Mills Road, based on information from viewers who confirmed the location to the station. Police described the scene by its location in the 1800 block of Twin Mills Road but had not publicly said whether either person was an Amazon employee, contractor or visitor.
The police statement that there was no current threat indicated investigators did not believe the incident presented an ongoing danger to people in the surrounding area. Authorities did not announce a search for another suspect in the initial information released after the shooting.
Several key details remained unanswered Sunday night, including the identities of the two people, their relationship, what happened immediately before the shooting and whether investigators had formally classified the deaths as a murder-suicide. Police had not announced any findings about motive or released information about evidence recovered at the scene.
The Virginia Beach Police Department said the investigation was active and ongoing. Additional information, including the identities of the two people and a clearer account of the circumstances surrounding their deaths, had not been released as of Sunday evening.
