Two dead, four injured in high school shooting

WINDER, GA – A northern Georgia high school was the scene of a deadly shooting event on Wednesday with two fatalities and potential injuries to four others, reports revealed. Police have arrested one suspect involved in the incident at Apalachee High School.

While the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed casualties, the exact figures and the condition of the victims remain unclear. Grady Health System confirmed the admission of one gunshot patient from the high school incident in one of its Atlanta-based hospital centers.

Despite the request for more details, the sheriff’s office stated that no additional information would be disclosed before a news conference planned for later that day.

In response to reports of a possible active shooter, the school administrators mandated a lockdown procedure for the students and the faculty. After security clearance, the students were allowed to reunite with their families.

Reports indicate that there was a significant gathering of law enforcement officers at the school on Wednesday morning. Aerial visuals showed a congregation of ambulances, officers, and a medical helicopter within the school’s premises. At least one individual was seen transferred into a helicopter, while the students were directed to the school’s stadium to wait for their pickups.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation was also onsite working alongside local law enforcement, according to a statement shared via social media.

In his social media statement, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, directed state resources to aid in the response to the school shooting incident. He called for Georgian citizens to join his family in praying for the safety of students across classrooms in the state. He assured of continued collaboration with local, state, and federal agencies to acquire necessary information and respond aptly to the situation.
