MIAMI, FL — Two men were wounded in a shooting outside a restaurant in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood shortly after midnight Tuesday, prompting a police investigation in the busy entertainment district, according to authorities.
Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to 316 NW 24th St., the address of Dukunoo Jamaican Kitchen, after reports that two people had been shot. The victims were identified only by their ages, 18 and 23. Both were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where authorities said they were in stable condition.
Miami police received multiple emergency calls about the shooting and found one wounded man outside Dukunoo Jamaican Kitchen, according to local reports. A second injured man was later found outside Skinny Louie, a neighboring restaurant. Police had not released additional information Tuesday morning about whether the two men were together when the shooting occurred.
The shooting happened in a section of Wynwood known for restaurants, shops, bars and nightlife. Dukunoo is across from the Wynwood 25 apartment building, and officers remained in the area for hours as investigators examined the scene. Police tape restricted access around part of the property, and a police K-9 unit was seen searching nearby.
Witnesses described people running from the area after the gunfire. Landen Turner told CBS News Miami that he was working when he saw people rushing into a store and down the street. When he went outside, he said, he saw two young men who had been shot.
Another nearby employee told Local 10 News that people began running toward his business and seeking shelter inside. The employee said he locked the doors after learning that shots had been fired outside. He later went outside and helped provide first aid to one of the wounded men while others applied pressure to the injury.
Video provided to CBS News Miami showed people and emergency workers helping the injured men before they were placed on stretchers and taken to the hospital. Authorities have not publicly identified either victim, and no information has been released indicating that anyone else was injured.
Investigators had not announced an arrest, identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive as of Tuesday morning. Miami police said detectives were still working to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
The investigation remained active Tuesday, with key questions about what preceded the gunfire and who was responsible still unanswered. Police had not released further details about the sequence of events or whether investigators were searching for a specific person.
