Two teen boys killed, 12-year-old injured in apartment shooting

ATLANTA, GA – A deadly shooting in the early hours of Tuesday in an Atlanta apartment left two teenage boys dead, while a 12-year-old boy was wounded. Atlanta police are working to understand the exact factors leading to the brutal event.

The violence erupted before 1 a.m. at an apartment complex in Oakland City, a neighborhood in Atlanta. The police found a 13-year-old boy dead at the scene. A similar-aged boy and the 12-year-old, who had been initially taken to a nearby fire station after sustaining injuries, were later hospitalized. Tragically, the second 13-year-old could not be saved and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased victims as Jakody Davis and Lamon Freeman just after 9 a.m. on Tuesday. As per police reports, the 12-year-old is stable and his injuries are not deemed life-threatening.

The shooting incident reportedly transpired in a stairwell within the apartment complex. Homicide Commander Andrew Smith said there’s presently no additional information about what might have triggered the shooting. Detectives are conducting interviews with witnesses, which include family members, and are also examining video footage.

A grieving girl present on site, who identified one of the victims as her cousin, spoke to reporters. She firmly believed that the young victim had done nothing to warrant the fatal shooting.
