SPRINGFIELD, TN – A double homicide shook Springfield, Tennessee, as two women were found shot to death inside a parked vehicle on Sunday afternoon. A suspect is presently in custody.
Shannon Heard, a local resident, was at home with his kids when he heard the gunfire. He initially dismissed the noise, given its frequency in his neighborhood. However, he was alarmed after seeing a man running through his yard while trying to secure a gun on his leg.
According to the Springfield Police Department, the gruesome incident happened near Central Avenue, on Pine Circle, around 2:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered the two female victims shot in a parked car. While medical teams attempted to save the second woman, their efforts were unsuccessful. Both women were declared dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Monray Vontez Johnson, was apprehended shortly after the discovery. He is currently being held at the Robertson County jail on two charges of criminal homicide.
Residents believe one of the women to have been Johnson’s girlfriend. This act of daytime violence left locals shocked. Neighborhood residents suggest increased police patrols could enhance area safety. As for Heard, he has decided that his children will play only at the park from now on, expressing an urgent need to protect the young ones from such incidents.
The names of the two female victims aren’t yet revealed. The Springfield Police Department is continuing its investigation into the case. Authorities have also asked the public to submit any information related to this unfortunate incident.
