FORDHAM, NY – A toddler was injured after being caught in the crossfire of a reported shooting incident in the Bronx, according to local law enforcement. The event unfolded on East Fordham Road and Grand Concourse a little before 2 p.m. on Saturday.
Initial reports suggest a male individual opened fire on a group of men congregated near the Capital One bank. The group scattered towards TD Bank across the street, evading the bullets during the pursuit. Amidst the chaos, a two-year-old boy, out walking with his mother near TD Bank, was grazed by a bullet that entered his lower back and exited through his leg.
The toddler was quickly transported to Jacobi Hospital in stable condition, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery.
The shooter was able to escape from the scene, heading north on Creston Ave near 190th Street. He is described as being in his thirties, dressed in a green hoodie, a black fur-collared jacket, light blue jeans, and possibly red sneakers.
Nana Kwame, a nearby store manager, was working when the shots rang out. Upon hearing the gunfire, he promptly realized an incident had taken place.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation continues. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
