An east London woman stands accused of murdering two young boys after their bodies were discovered at a home in east London.
In Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today, Kara Alexander, 44, was charged with killing the children, ages two and five. As she announced her name and date of birth, she wore a gray tracksuit and covered her face with her hair.
An Old Bailey preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 22. Alexander is remanded in custody pending her hearing.
There were no details provided during the hearing, which lasted less than five minutes in total. At 2pm on Friday, emergency services were called to an address in Cornwallis Road, Dagenham, where the bodies of the children were found. Upon arrival, police announced that the two children were dead on the scene.
The family has been informed and continues to receive support from specialist officers. There will be a post-mortem examination and formal identification of the bodies in due course.
Two counts of murder were filed against Alexander on Monday in connection with the incident. Over the weekend, a man previously arrested in connection with the tragedy was released without further action.
Sean Treweek, the Detective Inspector, said earlier this week, “This is clearly an extremely distressing incident with many unanswered questions. However, at this very early stage, nobody else is sought in connection with the deaths.”
A number of police officers will be stationed around the area, and anyone with information or concerns are encouraged to speak to those officers.
