Woman and 9-month-old son found dead in apparent murder-suicide

NORTH ANDOVER, MA – A tragic incident unfolded in North Andover, where authorities say a woman killed her infant son before taking her own life. The alleged murder-suicide occurred in a home on Turnpike Street, with local authorities called to the scene late Monday afternoon.

Essex District Attorney Paul Tucker identified the victims as Jennifer Paez, 35, and her 9-month-old son, Valentino Paez. Preliminary investigation suggests Jennifer Paez stabbed her son before dying by suicide.

Responding officers found Jennifer Paez dead at the scene, while Valentino was pronounced dead just over an hour later at Lawrence General Hospital.

Condolences were extended to the family of the victims by Tucker, who praised the efforts of all responding personnel from North Andover Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, and others involved for their support to the community and family in the wake of this unimaginable crime.

Expressing reassurance to the public, local law enforcement declared that this was an isolated incident and that no broader threat persists. North Andover Police Chief Charles Gray described the events as a ‘tragic incident.’

Merrimack College, located near the usually peaceful neighborhood, witnessed dozens of police officers and firefighters at the scene Monday night. Additional details are pending as the investigation continues.
