Text messages to her aunt on Sunday hinted at a “very intense spiritual awakening” and contained apologies for what she described as “craziness.” In a message to her roommate, she expressed fear, mentioning that someone might be attempting to steal her money and identity.
Since then, Kobayashi’s family has been unable to reach her. Her phone, once traceable to LAX, now goes directly to voicemail. This abrupt silence has prompted her family to file reports with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the LAPD, LAX police, and the FBI.
