LEWISVILLE, Texas – A disturbing workplace shooting in Lewisville on Thursday resulted in the death of a woman and led to a man’s arrest.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., Lewisville police responded to a call about an active shooter at a local business. Witnesses described a horrifying scene as the woman, on her lunch break, was fatally shot at her desk.
Rachel Roberts, the Public Information Officer with Lewisville Police Department, recounted officers’ swift response given that the scene was right behind their department. The nearby Allegiance Trucks shares a parking lot with the police facility.
Upon arrival, police confronted the suspect. The alleged killer immediately surrendered, dropping to his knees and raising his hands. Authorities have since confiscated a gun from the premises.
The female victim was rushed to a hospital but sadly did not survive her injuries. The nature of the relationship between the shooter and victim is under investigation, though it is confirmed that they were not strangers. “We still haven’t got a clear picture of what their relationship was, if they even had a relationship,” Roberts added.
Investigators are curious about a broken door handle at the site, pondering whether it resulted from police action, the suspect’s entry, or another cause. Entry into the business reportedly mandates a security code or badge. However, the suspect’s access method is unclear.
Detectives have commenced detailed interviews with dozens of witnesses.
