Both men died at a Willis home, and a grand jury will review the woman’s actions, according to authorities.
WILLIS, TX — A woman shot her ex-boyfriend after he allegedly arrived at her home with a firearm and fatally shot her current boyfriend Friday night, leaving both men dead, according to a preliminary investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded at about 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 to a 911 call reporting an assault involving a firearm in the 5000 block of Pleasure Lake Drive in Willis. They found two adult men suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators said the woman’s ex-boyfriend had arrived at her home and brandished a firearm before shooting her current boyfriend. The woman then returned fire, shooting her ex-boyfriend, according to the sheriff’s office. Authorities have described that account as preliminary, and detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Sgt. Christopher Evans of the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit told FOX 26 Houston that the two men had become involved in an altercation over the woman before shots were fired. Authorities have not released additional details about what led to the confrontation or what occurred immediately before the gunfire.
The woman was not injured, according to investigators. The names of the two men and the woman had not been released Saturday as authorities worked to complete notifications to relatives. The sheriff’s office also had not announced any criminal charges in connection with the shooting.
Major Crimes detectives and crime scene investigators were called to the home to investigate. The sheriff’s office said the case involving the woman’s use of deadly force will be presented to a grand jury, which will determine whether an indictment is warranted. Authorities have not announced when that review will take place.
The grand jury review does not establish that the woman committed a crime. Investigators have said only that her actions will be presented for consideration as they continue gathering evidence and examining the sequence of events. No final determination about criminal responsibility had been announced Saturday.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting was an isolated incident involving the people at the home and that there was no continuing threat to the public. Investigators had not released further information about the two men, their relationship beyond the account given by authorities, or whether additional witnesses were present.
The investigation remained active Saturday, with the identities of those involved still being withheld and the woman’s actions awaiting grand jury review. The sheriff’s office said the circumstances surrounding the two deaths remain under investigation.
