Deputies said the victim drove to a Hemingway Drive home before shots were fired at her car.
DELTONA, FL — A Deltona woman and a 15-year-old babysitter were arrested after deputies said a Facebook argument led to gunfire late Tuesday outside a home on Hemingway Drive.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said the case began as an online dispute and became a shooting into an occupied vehicle. Investigators said the victim was not reported injured, but her car had shattered glass, bullet holes and a flat tire. The arrests also led detectives to report finding drugs inside the home.
Deputies said the victim had been arguing on Facebook with 29-year-old Ines Jonjic before she drove to Jonjic’s home for what she described as a face-to-face conversation. The dispute grew after Jonjic took an image of the victim’s infant from Facebook, added malicious comments and sent it back to the victim, according to the arrest report. When the victim arrived at the home late Tuesday, she told investigators two people were standing in the driveway with handguns. No words were exchanged before both raised their arms and fired at her car, deputies said. The victim reported seeing muzzle flashes, hearing gunshots and watching her rear window shatter as she left the area.
Deputies responded to Hemingway Drive around 11:50 p.m. after the shooting was reported. The victim later discovered her front passenger-side tire was flat. According to the arrest report, she did not immediately notify law enforcement after leaving the home. Instead, she called roadside assistance, had the tire repaired and drove home. Deputies later met with her and found bullet holes in several vehicle windows. Investigators said .380-caliber and 9-millimeter shell casings were found in the garage at the Deltona home. Jonjic admitted shooting at the victim’s vehicle, according to deputies, and investigators said they recovered her firearm from her bedroom. The teen denied firing a gun, and deputies said a second gun had not been located.
After deputies arrived, investigators said they used public address announcements for several hours before anyone came out of the house. Around 5:30 a.m., Jonjic, her children and 15-year-old Elijah Woodberry, identified by deputies as her children’s babysitter, surrendered to deputies at the scene. Detectives said they later found marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines and other pills inside the home and vehicles. Deputies said bags of drugs were found in a backpack in the teen’s bedroom. The sheriff’s office did not report that the victim, Jonjic, Woodberry or the children were struck by gunfire. The exact number of shots fired was not released, and investigators did not say whether any nearby homes or vehicles were hit.
Jonjic and Woodberry were each charged with shooting into an occupied vehicle. Jonjic also faces drug-related charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a specified area, possession of Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances, two counts of possession of a new legend drug without a prescription and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Woodberry also faces charges of possession of a firearm by a delinquent, trafficking in cocaine, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a specified area and violation of probation. Deputies said he was already on probation for an unrelated drug possession case and was accused of violating curfew tied to that prior arrest.
The shooting brought a large law enforcement response to a residential part of Deltona before dawn Wednesday. Deputies said Jonjic’s children were inside the home during the hours before the surrender, though authorities did not describe their ages or release details about where they were placed after the arrests. The victim’s account became a key part of the early investigation, along with damaged vehicle glass, shell casings and statements made after deputies secured the scene. Officials said the case remained tied to the Facebook dispute, but they did not release the full exchange or say whether investigators had obtained all social media records connected to the argument.
Jonjic remained in jail as of Wednesday night, according to local reports. Woodberry’s case includes both the shooting allegation and the separate probation matter. Prosecutors will decide how to proceed on the filed charges, including whether the teen’s case remains in juvenile court or moves through another process. Deputies said the investigation was continuing as detectives reviewed the shooting scene, the vehicle damage, the recovered firearm and the drugs found during the search.
The case stood Thursday with two people charged, one gun recovered and a second gun still not reported found. The next steps are expected in court filings and initial hearings following the arrests.
