PHILADELPHIA, PA – A worker at a Germantown bar was critically injured late Sunday in a shooting while taking out the trash. Police suspect the shooter may have been waiting for the victim.
Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace reported that the incident occurred around 11:53 p.m. outside Charlie B’s Bar on the 100 block of East Chelten Avenue. As the 53-year-old employee exited the bar to dispose of garbage, an assailant in a blue or dark-colored pickup truck opened fire, hitting the man at least once.
Responding officers found the man suffering from gunshot wounds to his chest and back. It was unclear if the injuries were from one bullet or multiple shots, said Inspector Pace. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and remains in critical condition.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the shooting took place right at the bar’s entrance. The gunfire reportedly came from a vehicle parked across the street. “It seems like they may have been lying in wait for this individual,” Pace said, suggesting the assailant may have been targeting the victim specifically.
Authorities are still determining whether the victim was the intended target of the shooter or if it was a case of mistaken identity. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
