A night that began with excitement and enjoyment ended in tragedy for Jacob Lewis, a 20-year-old man, and his sister as they returned home from a Taylor Swift concert late Friday night. The siblings experienced car trouble, and as Jacob stepped out to push the vehicle, he was fatally struck by a suspected drunk driver.
The driver, identified as 34-year-old Alan Bryant, initially fled the scene. However, a tow truck driver who witnessed the incident followed Bryant, ultimately leading to his arrest on Caroline Street. Adding to the family’s grief, Steve Lewis, Jacob’s father, revealed that Bryant had helped Jacob’s sister pull his son out from under the car before fleeing the scene.
Jacob was known for his passion for musical theater, video games, and storytelling abilities. His father expressed hope that Jacob had positively impacted the lives of those who knew him.
Bryant now faces charges for failure to stop and render aid, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of additional charges. He is currently being held at Harris County Jail.
Jacob’s sister sustained injuries in the accident but is expected to make a full recovery.
In honor of Jacob’s love for musical theater, Katy Independent School District is establishing a scholarship fund in his name. Jacob’s family has also set up a GoFundMe account to assist with funeral expenses.
