The fishing YouTuber was released from the hospital as Harris County investigators searched for video that could identify his attacker.
HARRIS COUNTY, TX — A local YouTuber known as Captain Crunch Boats was stabbed while recording boaters at public boat ramps in the Clear Lake area over the weekend, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The attack happened at the Clear Lake Park public boat ramps along NASA Parkway, a location where Captain Crunch regularly records videos and livestreams. A roughly 75-minute livestream from the scene has become part of the sheriff’s office investigation as deputies work to determine who attacked him and why.
Toward the end of the livestream, Captain Crunch can be heard arguing with several people he had been recording at the boat ramp. The exchange continued for several minutes before the camera suddenly fell to the ground. Investigators told ABC13 that an unknown person approached the YouTuber from behind and stabbed him at that point. Voices on the recording can then be heard yelling for the attacker to stop.
Authorities said the people who had been arguing with Captain Crunch were not identified as the attacker. Instead, investigators said some of those boaters moved to help him after the stabbing. People can be heard calling for assistance and confronting the person accused of carrying out the attack. The distinction is important because the livestream captured a verbal dispute shortly before the stabbing, but authorities have not publicly established that the earlier argument caused the attack.
Captain Crunch was taken to a hospital after the incident and later released. ABC13 reported that he suffered minor injuries. He subsequently posted on social media to tell followers that he was safe and planned to provide a fuller account of what happened. Authorities have not publicly released his legal name in connection with the investigation.
The sheriff’s office also is investigating damage to another fisherman’s vehicle. The attacker is accused of slashing the tires of a black truck at the boat ramp. The truck’s owner told ABC13 that his vehicle resembled the one driven by Captain Crunch, although investigators have not announced why the truck was targeted or whether the damage was directly connected to the stabbing.
Fishing guide Harrison Woods, who told ABC13 he frequently sees Captain Crunch at the ramp, described the YouTuber as a familiar presence at the site. Woods said the stabbing surprised people who regularly use the public boat ramp. His view that the attack may have been personal has not been confirmed by investigators, and authorities have not publicly announced a motive.
Captain Crunch Boats has built an online following around videos filmed at boat ramps, including Clear Lake Park. His recordings often document activity around boats being launched or retrieved and sometimes capture confrontations with people at the ramps. The livestream from the weekend incident is now being reviewed as potential evidence rather than simply online content.
As of Tuesday, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office had not announced an arrest or publicly identified a suspect. Investigators said they had obtained video that may show the person involved, but they did not have a clear image of the individual’s face and were working to obtain additional footage. The motive for the stabbing remained unknown.
