PHILADELPHIA, PA – Philadelphia police are investigating an incident where an Amazon delivery partner allegedly fired shots during a dispute with a school bus aide. The suspected shooter, Terrel Hall-Williams, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault and other offenses. The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in South Philadelphia after a camp bus couldn’t maneuver a turn due to a parked Amazon van.
According to officials, an altercation broke out when a bus aide stepped out to request one of the delivery drivers to move their vehicle. At some point in the argument, Hall-Williams retrieved a firearm from the Amazon truck and commenced opening fire. Despite intervention attempts by camp staff, Hall-Williams allegedly fired three shots. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident, and the bus full of campers managed to take refuge in a nearby school, the Edwin M. Stanton School.
Hall-Williams is no longer delivering packages on behalf of Amazon as a result of the incident. Amazon issued a statement indicating relief that no one was physically harmed and labeled the behavior as unacceptable.
The company is actively cooperating with law enforcement during the ongoing investigation and noted that the company policy forbids delivery personnel from carrying weapons.
A year ago, the same location was the scene of another shooting incident where an 18-year-old was targeted. Neighbors expressed their alarm at the recurring incidents but indicated that they still feel safe within the community. Notably, police data reveals a decrease in shootings within the district, with eight reported so far in 2024, down from 23 the previous year.
