Authorities charged a Greenville man with murder after his co-worker was found fatally shot inside a newly constructed home.
ANDERSON, SC — A 29-year-old Greenville man was denied bond Tuesday after authorities charged him with murder in the fatal shooting of a co-worker at a home under construction in Anderson County.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 52-year-old Nicholas Christopher Grove of Taylors. Authorities said Grove was working as a contractor Monday at a newly constructed home on Tilman Court, off Highway 81, when he was fatally shot. The coroner ruled his death a homicide.
Deshod Uriah Shamar Oliver, 29, of Greenville, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. Oliver was booked into the Anderson County Detention Center and remained in custody after bond was denied Tuesday.
Deputies were dispatched to Tilman Court shortly before 10:15 a.m. Monday after receiving a report of a shooting with injuries. Investigators found Grove inside the kitchen area of the home with a fatal gunshot wound. Sheriff Chad McBride said other construction workers at the property reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot.
Investigators said Grove and Oliver worked for the same Greenville-based cabinetry company and had traveled together to the construction site earlier that morning. Authorities said preliminary information indicated the two co-workers became involved in a verbal dispute before the shooting. Witnesses interviewed by investigators, however, said they did not hear an argument before the gunfire.
Another worker told deputies that the person suspected in the shooting had left the construction site in a work vehicle and was heading toward Interstate 85. Workers provided investigators with a description, and deputies located Oliver near I-85 around mile marker 32. He was taken into investigative detention before detectives announced the criminal charges.
The shooting happened in a developing residential area in the Hopewell community. The Sheriff’s Office described the case as an isolated incident and said there was no continuing threat to the public. Authorities have not publicly released additional information explaining what allegedly caused the dispute between the two men.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office and Anderson County Coroner’s Office are continuing to investigate the shooting. Oliver is accused of the crimes charged, and the allegations against him have not been proven in court.
