CHARLES COUNTY, MD – Three individuals lost their lives on Friday morning during a devastating crash between a dump truck and a bus transporting passengers to an assisted living facility in Charles County, Maryland. The Maryland State Police confirmed the incident in an official announcement.
The bus driver, along with two passengers, died in the accident. However, the identities of the deceased are yet to be revealed as their next of kin are being informed. A video from the scene depicts the annihilated bus showing significant damage, especially to the driver’s side.
The mishap took place near a lightly populated region in the county, at the crossroads of Port Tobacco Road and Bowie Road, just before 8 a.m. As per the initial probe, the transport bus was moving westward on Port Tobacco Road. Due to unknown reasons, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash head-on into a dump truck that was heading east on the same road.
Paramedics pronounced three people dead at the spot while the dump truck driver remained unscathed. At this point, there is no suspicion of either driver being under the influence during the incident, as indicated by the police.
An ongoing investigation has been launched by the Maryland State Police Crash Team following the fatal collision, and traffic on all lanes of Port Tobacco Road was temporarily halted.
