MACOMB COUNTY, MI – On Christmas Day in Michigan, a visit to deliver gifts for his children went awry. Deandre Patrick Lawrence, a 23-year-old father, allegedly shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend while he was delivering the gifts. This shooting led to critical injuries, as reported by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the prosecutor’s account, the festivity morphed into a violent dispute when Lawrence clashed with the new boyfriend, who also resided in his ex-girlfriend’s house. The clash between the two men led to a chase. When the woman’s current boyfriend fell to the ground, Lawrence allegedly fired two shots into his back.
Following the incident, Lawrence was arrested. The suspect is now facing charges of assault with the intent to murder and felony firearm. He was arraigned on Wednesday and held on a bond of $1 million. As a condition of his possible release, Lawrence is also prohibited from contacting the victim or any witnesses of the criminal incident.
“Violent actions have no place in resolving disputes. Our thoughts are with the victim and his family. We will work to ensure accountability for this terrible Christmas Day shooting,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido commented.
Lawrence’s next court appearance is scheduled for January 4, 2024.
