Daycare provider allegedly attacks husband with bat, endangers three children

WALPOLE, MA – A Massachusetts woman who operates a daycare was arrested after allegedly assaulting her husband with a baseball bat while three young children were under her supervision. 58-year-old Diane Fenton is now facing multiple charges, including three counts of reckless endangerment of a child following the incident at their Walpole home on September 20.

The police report revealed that Fenton’s husband had dialed 911 that afternoon alleging his wife was pursuing him with a baseball bat. He said he confronted her after discovering she was under the influence of alcohol while looking after a 6-month-old, a 3-year-old, and a 4-year-old.

Reacting to the shocking incident, a parent of one of the children in Fenton’s care, who wished to remain anonymous, remarked, “This was something no parent wants to experience.”

When law enforcement officers arrived, they found the children inside the home safe and unharmed. Fenton had a legal license to operate her day-care business from their residence.

According to police, Fenton’s husband claimed she has a history of alcohol abuse and violent behavior. He recounted an incident where she reportedly attacked him with a knife a year prior to the most recent baseball bat attack.

Fenton’s court hearing is scheduled for December, according to reports. She has been directed to avoid visiting her home during this period.
