BRONX, NY – A car crash caused by an attempted vehicular stunt in Hunts Point, Bronx, resulted in the deaths of two passengers early this week. The unidentified 23-year-old driver, attempting tricks with a Chrysler 300, lost control after hitting a dip in the road near the intersection of Bryant and Viele Avenues.
The driver’s reckless antics failed to consider the uneven road conditions in the industrial district near the East River. The accident, which took place at about 3:30 a.m., involved the driver’s car colliding with a parked truck.
Tragically, the crash led to the deaths of 21-year-old Gilvante Roberson and 15-year-old Sabrina Villagomez, who were unable to survive their injuries despite being quickly transported to Lincoln Hospital.
Friends and acquaintances of Roberson and Villagomez are mourning their untimely deaths, praising Roberson’s energy and amiability and expressing grief over Villagomez, a sophomore at Ramapo High School in Rockland County.
The driver, who was part of a group of thrill-seeking motorists, was transported to Harlem Hospital and is currently in stable condition. A 17-year-old girl, another passenger in the vehicle, is currently in critical condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
As investigations continue, no arrests have been made in relation to the crash. Area workers have expressed concern over frequent racing and reckless driving incidents in the neighborhood, suggesting the need for more effective traffic controls.
