SARPY COUNTY, NE – A domestic violence incident on Monday resulted in the deaths of two individuals, including a beloved teacher from Westside High School. Deputies responded to a 911 call from a residence near 143rd Street and Meadows Parkway, indicating a volatile situation involving firearms.
Sheriff Jeff Davis provided details on the tragic events, disclosing that Rory Geiger, 44, was found dead at the scene. Officials had previously visited the household approximately a month earlier concerning mental health concerns. At the time of the incident, a call from within the home alerted authorities that Geiger had shot his wife, Rebecca Geiger, and remained armed.
Upon arrival, deputies faced gunfire from inside the residence. One officer returned fire, enabling them to enter the home. Despite the attempts to revive Rory Geiger, efforts were unsuccessful.
Rebecca Geiger, 45, was identified as the woman fatally shot by her husband. She was a cherished teacher whose warmth and dedication left a lasting impact on her students. The Westside Community Schools expressed sorrow, emphasizing how Geiger’s efforts helped students feel valued and connected.
The school district has activated a crisis response team to offer support to students and staff members throughout the week as they process the loss.
With five deputies involved in the response placed on administrative leave, a grand jury will be convened to examine the circumstances of the shooting, a routine step following officer-involved incidents. Body camera footage, along with additional surveillance from the property, is under review to clarify the details surrounding the deaths. It remains uncertain if Rory Geiger died due to self-inflicted injuries or from the deputy’s returned fire, Sheriff Davis noted.
Authorities confirmed that aside from the fatalities, no other injuries were reported at the scene.
