BALTIMORE, MD – An 18-year-old suspect has been charged with a murder that took place as a result of a botched Facebook Marketplace meetup. Baltimore City Police say Carlos Carrazana Ricardo, 18, and a companion went to the 2800 block of Harlem Avenue on November 26 at approximately 7:30 p.m. They were there to see a car Ricardo saw advertised on the Facebook Marketplace.
Upon their arrival, Ricardo and his friend met with two individuals who showed them the car, according to investigators. Charging documents indicate that after Ricardo decided not to buy the car and drove away with his companion, someone fired multiple shots at their vehicle. Ricardo was struck in the head and later succumbed to his injuries.
Marques Harris, 18, has been arrested by police in connection with the case. He is currently facing charges of first- and second-degree murder.
The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland also added safety tips, encouraging people to always bring a companion when meeting with a seller or a buyer. Personal information should be withheld, and intentions should be made clear upfront to avoid any confusion.
Numerous police departments in Baltimore and surrounding areas, including Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County, provide designated safe-exchange zones. These zones offer public and safe locations for buyers and sellers to meet up with one another and complete their transactions.
