CHARLOTTE, NC – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are actively pursuing leads after a series of linked shootings left one man dead and two others wounded early Tuesday morning. The incidents, which took place in under 30 minutes between 1:00 and 1:30 a.m., involved a suspect or suspects firing from a vehicle at other vehicles or bicyclists.
During a press conference, Deputy Chief Tonya Arrington called upon the community for assistance. The police department is currently offering a $10,000 reward for any information that leads to arrests.
The horrifying sequence began around 1:00 a.m. in the 3800 block of Statesville Avenue, where 58-year-old Mustaffa Muhammad was fatally shot while driving. Minutes later, a bicyclist was shot at but escaped unharmed at the intersection of Lasalle Street and Newland Road.
Subsequently, another vehicle was targeted by gunfire on Lasalle Street near I-77, followed by shots fired at a group on the 2100 block of Catherine Simmons Drive, which left a woman injured inside her home.
The violence continued in the Steel Creek area, where another bicyclist was injured in the 100 block of Hillary Circle, and a nearby residence was found struck by gunfire.
Authorities are also asking the public to submit any surveillance footage that could aid in the investigation. Additional police patrolling and canvassing are underway as the department intensifies its efforts to capture those responsible for the violence.
