High-speed crash kills 14-year-old passenger after colliding with UPS truck

A harrowing video circulating on the Citizen App captures the moment a 16-year-old driver lost control of a speeding BMW, leading to a devastating accident in Queens. The result was a fatal chain reaction crash that ended the life of his 14-year-old passenger, Fortune Williams.

The incident occurred when the red 2005 BMW 325i, traveling at a dangerously high speed, struck a stationary UPS truck. The collision sent the car spiraling out of control, leading it to crash into the side of a nearby tractor-trailer. The impact resulted in the tragic ejection of young Fortune from the vehicle, causing fatal injuries that left her lifeless at the scene.

The teen was reportedly speeding on North Conduit Avenue near the 160th Street intersection in Springfield Gardens around 6:40 p.m. on the fateful Wednesday. His loss of control caused the BMW to veer into the right-center lane and collide with the UPS truck parked on the side of the road.

The ensuing collision forced the UPS truck onto the sidewalk, knocking over a UPS employee who was about to enter the passenger side. The BMW, spinning uncontrollably, crossed the road again and crashed into a tractor-trailer.

Responding officers found Fortune lying in the street, suffering from severe head trauma. Despite their efforts, she could not be saved.

Further footage from the Citizen App shows the wreckage of the BMW — nearly torn apart — strewn across the road, as NYPD officers commenced their investigations.

Following the crash, the teenage driver was transported to Cohen Children’s Hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition and complaining of pain. Meanwhile, the tractor-trailer driver, a 49-year-old man, remained uninjured and stayed at the scene.

The UPS employee who was knocked over by the collision was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and is also reported to be in stable condition.
