Husband murders his wife in front of their child

WATERBURY, CT – A murder investigation is currently underway in Waterbury, Connecticut, following the fatal stabbing of a woman allegedly by her husband. The incident occurred in front of their young child, who is now under the care of the Department of Children and Families (DCF). Authorities arrested the woman’s husband soon after the incident.

Advocates for victims of domestic violence are reminding the public of the resources available for support, especially as cases have shown an unfortunate increase since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Amanda Nardozzi, executive director of Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, the nature of the violence in such cases can considerably vary. In some cases, there is a pattern of ongoing violence. In other cases, Nardozzi noted that there is a sudden outburst of violent behavior.

Experts, like Dr. Christine Cocciola, warn of the detrimental long-term effects these violent incidents may have on children present during such situations. “They have learned to regulate their behaviors, and as they progress in life, they learn that they cannot authentically be themselves because they’re afraid of what the retaliation might be,” Cocciola said.

Safe Haven of Greater Waterbury, available 24/7, serves as one of the resources for domestic violence victims. CT Safe Connect can also be reached via call or text at 888-774-2900 for those needing immediate help.
