Indiana man gets 4 life sentences for murders of ex-girlfriend, 3 children – FOX 59 Indianapolis
A 22-year-old man named Cohen Bennett Hancz-Barron has been convicted of stabbing to death his former girlfriend, 26-year-old Sarah Nicole Zent. In addition, he also murdered her three children- 5-year-old Carter Matthew Zent, 3-year-old Ashton Duwayne Zent and 2-year-old Aubree Christine Zent.
This Indiana man was convicted for his crime without the possibility of parole for killing his girlfriend and her three young children, all of whom were under the age of six. The victims’ surviving family explicitly requested that the death penalty be taken off the table.
At approximately 10:43 a.m. on June 2, 2021, police responded to a home invasion call where they found four victims, including an adult female and three small children. The victims had sustained severe injuries to their necks.
Investigators were able to track Hancz-Barron to an apartment complex in Lafayette and take him into custody several hours after the gruesome murders. Hancz-Barron had previously been convicted of robbery and was serving the remainder of his sentence in a drug rehabilitation center at the time of the murders.
During the seven-day trial, prosecutors presented evidence that Barron killed the family. Cohen Hancz-Barron was sentenced to four life sentences without parole for killing his girlfriend and her three young children. The judge said the crime was “as horrific as any I have witnessed.”
