JOLIET, IL – In a horrifying incident in Joliet, a six-year-old boy allegedly stabbed his two-year-old brother to death. Responding to a 911 call on Friday evening from a home on the 2700 block of Fairway Drive, officers discovered a critically injured toddler who had been stabbed multiple times, assumedly by his elder brother, using a kitchen knife.
Despite being taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, the toddler did not survive. According to the police, the mother was at home during the incident but was situated in another room. She discovered her injured son and then made the emergency call.
Referring to the appalling incident, Joliet Police Department’s Sgt. Dwayne English stated, “Everyone in this incident is a victim,” emphasizing the profound impact it has had on all involved, including the responding officers.
The Department of Children and Family Services (DCF) has been informed of the incident and is aiding the police in their investigation. In conjunction, the DCF and the Will County Health Department Screening Assessment Support Services have arranged for the six-year-old involuntarily committed to a local hospital for a mental health examination.
It was disclosed that the Joliet Police Department has had past dealings with the family, though details about these interactions were not provided. The ongoing investigation is aimed at uncovering the motivations behind this tragic event.
