PHILADELPHIA, PA – A Philadelphia man finds himself in serious legal trouble after authorities discovered a stockpile of more than 50 pounds of homemade explosives in a rowhome last week, according to local prosecutors.
Evgenii Sadrislamov was formally charged on Wednesday with multiple offenses, including possession of weapons of mass destruction. The notification of his arrest came after firefighters responded to reports of smoke emanating from a garage on Montague Street.
Upon arrival, the firefighting team declared the scene a hazardous materials situation upon discovering explosive-making materials inside the property. Two individuals, a man and a woman, were rescued and received on-site medical attention as first responders took control of the situation.
Deputy Commissioner James Kelly III addressed the media, revealing that an “explosive manufacturing lab” had been set up in the basement and garage. The lab contained various chemicals used in creating homemade explosives, along with detailed instructions and formulas for crafting these dangerous devices.
This alarming bust comes while Sadrislamov was still on probation for a 2020 incident involving the discovery of commercial-grade fireworks in his home. Assistant District Attorney Angela Brennan expressed significant concern, noting how such explosives could have devastated the community. The assistant district attorney described this incident as “a clear escalation” from Sadrislamov’s prior offenses.
Deputy Commissioner Kelly underscored the potentially catastrophic outcome, stressing that the community narrowly avoided disaster. Authorities are reporting that Sadrislamov, a Russian immigrant, turned 28 on Saturday and unfortunately spent it incarcerated due to this alarming situation.
