Homicide detectives are investigating after an officer discovered the unresponsive man early Sunday at Glassmanor Community Center.
OXON HILL, MD — A man was found unresponsive early Sunday at Glassmanor Community Center in Oxon Hill and was pronounced dead despite efforts to save him, according to the Maryland-National Capital Park Police.
An officer on routine patrol discovered the man at about 5:26 a.m. Sept. 27 and began providing aid, police said. Other first responders also attempted lifesaving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities had not publicly identified him as of Sunday evening.
The Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit took over the investigation. The involvement of homicide detectives does not by itself mean authorities have determined that the man was killed. Police had not announced a cause or manner of death or said that the death was a homicide.
Officials also had not released information about injuries the man may have suffered or circumstances that could explain how he died. No suspect information, arrests or possible motive had been announced. Those details remain unknown as detectives work to determine what happened before the man was discovered.
The death occurred at Glassmanor Community Center, located at 1101 Marcy Ave. in Oxon Hill. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission lists the facility as a community recreation center with basketball courts, athletic fields, a playground, picnic areas, fitness equipment and other recreational amenities.
The center also hosts programs and activities for young people and other community members. Its published schedule lists Sunday operating hours beginning at noon, several hours after the man was discovered. Authorities had not announced whether the investigation affected the center’s normal operations.
The case remained under investigation Sunday. Authorities had not released the man’s identity, cause of death or additional details about the circumstances surrounding his death.
