FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA – A chilling incident revealing an unthinkable dimension of violence unfolded at a Reston gym. In the midst of a workout session, a man was shot dead by another man, Fairfax County Police Department confirmed.
In response to a report of a shooting, police arrived at the Gold’s Gym on Sunrise Valley Road and found a man struggling with grave injuries to his upper body. One of the gym-goers, Paul Jacobson, who was present at the scene, shared a firsthand account of the terror. On hearing a loud noise, he turned to witness a horrifying sight– a man with a gun looming over another. Recognizing the imminent danger, Jacobson made a swift exit from the gym.
Based on preliminary investigations, the police officers discerned that the man had adopted a “targeted stance” as he approached and fired at the other man in the gym.
The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he subsequently died, while the search for the suspect continues. By Tuesday evening, the police had announced the arrest of a person linked to the shooting.
This tragic incident becomes the third instance of a shooting at a DMV-area gym in four months. Earlier events include a shooting at an LA Fitness branch in Glenarden, MD, in April, which critically injured a man over a basketball game dispute. In June, a fatal shooting at Onelife Fitness in Alexandria, VA, resulted in two deaths, including the shooter’s.
An ongoing investigation is in progress, and anyone with information about this incident is urged to reach out to the Fairfax County Police Department Major Crimes Bureau.
