Medical school resident murdered, ex-husband arrested

MARIETTA, GA – Dr. Samantha Woolery, 42, a first-year surgical resident at Morehouse School of Medicine, was found brutally murdered in her Marietta apartment on Sunday morning, as reported by authorities. The healthcare professional failed to show up for work, prompting her colleagues to check on her at her home, leading to the grim discovery.

Marietta Police Officer Chuck McPhilamy indicated that the investigation revealed the victim’s assailant was likely someone known to her, and the suspect had left the state. The following Monday, Marietta police announced the arrest of her 49-year-old ex-husband, Mickey Anthony Woolery, who resides in Carmel, Indiana.

Officer McPhilamy disclosed that law enforcement agencies were able to employ technology, including license plate readers, to track Mr. Woolery. While officers managed to locate him, he allegedly attempted to escape and was subsequently apprehended in a nearby forested area. He is charged with felony murder, felony aggravated assault, felony aggravated battery, felony possession of a weapon during a crime, and felony malice murder.

The police are coordinating with Indiana authorities to have Mr. Woolery extradited to Georgia. The department confirmed that the couple’s two children were not present at the time of the deadly altercation.
