Mom Arrested After Husband, Two Children Stabbed

Police say the two young children were stable after the early-morning attack, while their 37-year-old mother was taken to jail.

NORTHLAKE, TX — A 37-year-old Northlake woman was arrested Tuesday after police said her husband and two young children were injured in a stabbing inside their Denton County home, leaving the mother facing two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Northlake police identified the woman as Holly Leeann Flores. Officers were sent to a home in the 1200 block of Daylily Drive at about 4:20 a.m. Oct. 6 after a man called 911 and reported that his wife had a knife and had stabbed him, according to police. Officers arrived within minutes and detained Flores while they searched the home.

During a protective sweep, officers found two children who also had been injured, police said. Authorities identified them as a 3-year-old girl and a 10-month-old boy. Both children had stab wounds to the chest. The adult man, identified by police as 34 years old, suffered injuries to his head. Emergency crews took the man and both children to a Fort Worth hospital for treatment.

Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford said during a news conference Tuesday that the children’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening and that both were in stable condition. Police believe Flores is the mother of the children. Authorities had not confirmed during the initial investigation whether the injured man was their father.

Flores was also taken from the home to a Denton hospital for observation and treatment of possible injuries, according to police. She was later released from the hospital, taken into custody and transported to the Denton County Jail. Police said she faces two counts of attempted capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The charges are allegations, and the case remains under investigation.

The incident was not the first time police had been called to the Daylily Drive address. Crawford said officers had responded to the home about five times since March, with most of those calls involving welfare concerns. He did not provide details about what prompted the earlier calls or whether they were connected to the circumstances surrounding Tuesday’s stabbing.

Investigators had not publicly identified a suspected motive by Tuesday afternoon. Police also had not released a detailed account of what they believe happened inside the home before the 911 call. The investigation was continuing as detectives processed information gathered from the scene and worked to establish the sequence of events.

The stabbing prompted a large emergency response before sunrise in the residential area. Police said officers detained Flores shortly after reaching the home and discovered the injured children only after beginning their protective sweep. Authorities have not released the children’s names, and news organizations generally withhold the identities of young children involved in violent criminal investigations unless there is a compelling public reason to identify them.

The most serious allegations against Flores are the two attempted capital murder counts connected to the children. Police have described the charges announced Tuesday as part of an active investigation, and additional details could emerge as detectives continue their work. No court finding has been made on the allegations.

Flores remained in custody at the Denton County Jail following her release from the hospital. Northlake police said the investigation remains ongoing and that additional information was still being processed. Authorities had not announced further charges or released additional details about the injured man’s condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
