HICKORY, NC – Authorities are delving into text messages, call logs, and digital media while requesting DNA samples to unravel the complexities surrounding a deadly mass shooting that occurred at a house party on June 1. The incident, which took place on Walnut Acres Drive, involved more than 80 gunshots, resulting in one fatality and at least 11 injuries.
Law enforcement has identified six out of nine suspects, charging them with attempted first-degree murder. Among them is 20-year-old Garen Killian, who was apprehended and questioned two days following the incident. Despite his claims of not being present at the party, multiple eyewitnesses reported seeing him and his vehicle at the scene. One witness recounted a conversation where Killian allegedly expressed intentions to “air it out,” implying he planned to shoot up the gathering.
Investigators suspect that Snapchat was used by Killian to coordinate with others involved both before and after the shooting. Killian reportedly acknowledged his and other suspects’ affiliation with gang activities. Another suspect, Keandre Mack, faces several attempted murder charges and admitted to firing into the crowd with the intent to kill an individual named Rayquan Craig.
Craig, who allegedly hosted the party, faces charges related to underage alcohol possession. The investigation also revealed a meeting at a local Waffle House two days before the shooting. According to FBI sources, Killian and Toland Huff Jr.—who is also charged with multiple counts of attempted murder—discussed their plans if Craig proceeded with hosting the party, ominously warning that attendees should “watch out.”
Zoe Brazwell, another individual tied to the incident, is charged with being an accessory after the fact. Officers report that she had prior knowledge of the planned shooting and admitted to transporting Huff, Killian, and others to Charlotte shortly after the events unfolded.
As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, seeking answers and justice for the violence that shattered a night meant for celebration.
