CHICAGO, IL – The body of a pregnant woman was discovered on Sunday morning in an alley on the South Side of Chicago. The deceased woman has been identified by her family as 24-year-old Itzel Camarena who was six months into her pregnancy.
Camarena’s body was found between two dustbins around 9 a.m. in the 8200 block of South Vernon Avenue situated in the Chatham neighborhood, as per Chicago police. A wound was observed on her neck, leading to her being pronounced dead at the scene.
The Cook County Medical Examiner revealed that Camarena’s death occurred due to a gunshot wound to her face. However, it was not immediately mentioned by the police that the woman was shot.
The family of Camarena is grappling with immense grief and her mother, Vanessa Sanchez, is seeking answers. Sanchez reminisced about the alarming phone call that informed her about her daughter’s demise.
Sanchez’s eldest daughter, Camarena, was elated about her impending motherhood and dreamed of establishing a cosmetics business. Now, her mourning mother is left with an overwhelming number of questions.
Sanchez expressed her anguish, yearning for more information about who was accountable for the horrifying incident that took away her daughter and her unborn grandchild.
As per the family, Camarena was expecting to learn the gender of her baby soon and had plans to name her potential daughter ‘Itzayana,’ which translates to ‘gift from God.’
